About Us – Ron & Tammy Murray

Ron Murray began training with dogs in 1978. In 1994 he met Tammy in Halifax, NS.

In 1995 they moved to Vancouver Island and together, began their dog training school under the name West Haven Canine Academy.

In 2001 they began their breeding program with Giant Schnauzers and Dobermanns under the kennel name “Leidenschaft”; the German word for PASSION. They continue to breed Giants to this day, but after four ill-fated litters with Dobes, they let the bloodline go; the health problems were just too heartbreaking.

In 2002 Ron and Tammy moved to New Brunswick and set up a school and boarding facility in Fredericton under the name Leidenschaft Kennels.

In 2003 they established the only DVG Schutzhund club east of Ontario. The Sirius Working Dog Association. The club continues to this day, encouraging people with all breeds of dogs (including mixed) to participate in the sport.

In 2006, feeling burnt out, Ron and Tammy made the emotional decision to close their business. Tammy pursued a university degree at St. Thomas University and Ron became the main bread winner in the construction industry, still training dogs on the side.

Ron continues to train with people and their dogs and they both work with their own dogs and their club.
